LIFE, LATELY

* TAPS * HELLO?? IS THIS THING ON?

Once again, it’s been a while. A couple of posts ago I mentioned that life had been busy, what with work and travel plans and patchy internet access. And to be honest, things up until now just haven’t stopped. I’m not complaining- I know it’s a privilege to have a job doing what I love (particularly in conservation, where permanent jobs are like gold-dust) and the money to be able to explore new places. But what it has meant is that I haven’t had a second spare to sit down with my laptop and open Stripy Tapir for a good few weeks.

What have I been up to? Well, September saw a trip to Italy to celebrate my birthday, as well as a very last minute work trip to Russia, of all places. There’s no photos from the latter I’m afraid- but I have to say that the few bits of wilderness that I did see on the trip were absolutely spectacular.

As a result, though, I’m currently sitting on the floor surrounded by suitcases which need to be unpacked. I’m also sitting on a mountain of photographs from this summer’s travel that need to be sorted and edited. Thing is, it feels a bit incongruous to be posting about summer so late, when things here have been all about crunchy leaves and hot chocolates and the two muntjac deer which have been eating their way through our apple tree in the garden. So I thought I’d save them until winter has well and truly set in, and we’re all dreaming of sunnier climes. Or until I run out of content- we’ll see ;).

Talk to you soon.

N.B. These photographs are from a trip home to Spain last Autumn, when the most of the vegetation had gone a bit crispy and the ground was blanketed in autumn crocus (or, more specifically, Colchicum montanum- yet another Iberian peninsula endemic). As you can hopefully see, things got pretty damn magical at golden hour.
